I have a minecraft server being hosted by a company and it is running on snapshot 14w11b. Recently i built a very large portal hub (command block portals, not nether portals) underground to connect all the places of interest on the server. After it was complete i went on to building a moat around a castle. When I finished building the moat (which was countless grueling hours) I went to use the portal to return to the portal hub only to find that i had been teleported into the ground. I switched to spectator mode and looked around and i was indeed where the portal hub should have been, but it was nowhere to be seen, there were a few pieces left from the corners and a few bits of redstone, but other than that it was if it had never been there. Then i went above ground and saw a big patch of grass in the exact shape (to the nearest chunk) of the portal hub right where it used to be. Of course this was in a snow biome so the grass really stood out. It was as if the chunks containing the portal hub were deleted and re-generated, and to my horror, these chunks that were "deleted" cut right through several of our other buildings.
How did this happen? Is there any way to fix it? The server is set to automatically backup every night, but apparently it only saves 3 backups at a time. I haven't played in about 5 days and this happened more than 3 days ago. I do however have a few older backups on my hard drive but they are from last year and this portal hub was only half complete. The only option i see is to copy what exists of the hub from the old backup and paste it into the new backup with mcedit. Of course that will revert everything else in those chunks to the way they were last year which may mean some lost stuff in the buildings that were destroyed. Last time i patched stuff with mcedit i ended up with a crapload of corrupted chunks and now the world looks like a quilt with all the mis-matched, newly generated chunks. Are there any other options for me?

This look like the Server generate the chunks new. Maybe its an Problem on the server side (less Memory), or from the Snapshot.
I think u really cant do match about it.
