Currently for the past 3 1/2 updates me and my brother have wanted to play LAN together but can't. Whenever he looks for the world, it never shows up in the servers list.
We fixed that problem, by opening up his firewall, but whenever he tries to log in to the world, all it shows is him connecting and it won't connect no matter how long we wait. The one time we got it to work it refused with the message: Unknown Host
I am using a Mac (please don't ask me on specs, harddrive or anything like that, I'm clueless) I'm running OS X Version 10.9.2
While my brother has a lenovo laptop that runs Windows 7.
Please tell how to fix this as I've been waiting a long time to enjoy some "alone time" with him in game without the annoying, stupid, spoiled donators on the public servers.
If your brother is trying to connect (he runs windows) have him run the command line (type "cmd" in run) and then type "ipconfig" in there. Then, scroll around until you find the "ipv4 address" like this
Then, copy the ipv4 adress into the direct connect box once the LAN world is hosted. Once the Lan world is hosted, it should say the port. It is a series of numbers. Put a colon at the end of the ipv4 address of your brother's computer and enter in the port. An example would be 192.168.1.3:24736
Good luck. I have had LAN issues before, so I hope this works for you.
I have to agree with you on the "spoiled donators" thing. Those big huge servers are junk.
EDIT: I messed up. Those are the instructions if your brother is hosting the world. I do not have experience with Mac OS so I am not sure how it would be done if you were hosting. You could still try it though and see how it goes.
