Seeing that an update was available, I decided to update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. The update ran without any problem or issues. Until I wanted to play Minecraft again!
Before the update, I could run the game to 120-160 fps and 60 fps with V-Sync. I also ran a shaders mod with SEUS shaders with average 30-40 fps. No lag, no disconnect.
After the update, my framerate won't go further than 30-40 fps (50 with OptiFine) and I don't want to play on low graphics. Also, everytime I start a game or login to a server with my shaders enabled, my game crashes with no error report.
What I tried:
- Virus Scan
- Updating Graphics Drivers
- Reinstalling Java
- Much Windows 8.1 restart
- Updating Windows again
Nothing seems to work. Here is my config:
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40 GHZ
- 8,00 Go of RAM
- NVidia Geforce GT740m
- Intel HD Graphics when games are not being played
- A 1 To Hybrid Hard Drive (24 Gb SSD)
It is a MSI GP70 laptop.
I have just passed for the same issue with Win 8.1 and after I tried a lot of thing to fix it, I back to Win 8 and now the FPS in Minecraft is back to normal! ^^
Getting back to Windows 8 is a bad idea, especially because you won't be able to install any updates until you upgrade to 8.1. Also, I have upgraded from 8 to 8.1 without any performance drops (i5-3350P, 10GB RAM, Radeon HD7770).
There are more things that you could try.
Completely reinstall your GPU drivers - uninstall the ones you now have, restart the system, install the latest ones from NVidia site, restart.
Make sure that power mode is set to "High performance". You can find it by clicking a battery icon in your taskbar.
Make a backup of your actual .minecraft folder, wipe it and perform a clean game install, see what happens.
Make sure to switch these graphics options in-game: Advanced OpenGL to off, Performance to Max framerate, Anisotropic Antialiasing to off or max value (this option sometimes can increase performance, sometimes decrease, no idea why is it like that in Minecraft)

Any solutions?
Thank you!
