opening 14w08a maps on another version?

I'd like to update my 14w08a let's play to 1.7.7, however, when I try to open a map in any other version, all items, including inventory and chests, are deleted. I do believe there has been some changes to IDs, but I'm not quite sure. Is there a way to move my LP without losing all my items? Thanks

No there isn't. 14w08a is a pre-1.8 snapshot and uses 1.8 item IDs. Whereas 1.7.7 is a 1.7 bug fix release.

Hopefully, but it is always possible that changes introduced in a snapshot will be discarded because they decided it was the wrong thing to do. As Mojang warns, you shouldn't use snapshot releases with a world that you care about.
