OS: Windows 7 , 64 bit
CPU: Intel i7 920
Graphics: 2x Geforce 250 gts
Ram: 8gb, but one of my chips broke so it's at 4gb (could that be it, a faulty chip?)

so pretty much is that whenever I play minecraft, I get a crash.
sometimes I can play for about 20 min, sometimes only 1 or 2 min.

It is probably your RAM. This crash is inside the JVM itself and occurs during Garbage Collection (i.e. during a memory sweep).

I remember there was/is a way to lower ram usage, I forgot what to do exactly though..

Not a shortage of RAM, just bad RAM in general. If you have bad memory Java programs will find it.
