I'm simply trying the shotgun approach.

I'm running a Win7 64-bit, 8G RAM, Nividia GT610

Running the latest Nividia drivers, 335.23

I'm running Minecraft in a separate folder, but with a fresh install of 1.7.5. This also occurs if .Minecraft is set in the AppData folder too.

I've got Java 64-bit 7u51 installed only. The JVM Arguement is -Xmx4G

I'm using launcher 1.3.11

I have disabled the anti-virus for the time being.

Every time I close a chest, the game freezes. It does not freeze if the game sounds are turned off.

That error at the end occurs because I closed the game/Java.

Any suggestions would be great.

New information:

It seems to occasionally freeze when the arrow hit player sound occurs as well. Also, explosions are considered block sounds? I don't get it.

I was not having the problem during the April Fools joke. The Villager close chest sound worked fine.

Could you please give a little more information about this computer? The first thing I would try is to remove the .minecraft folder from %appdata%, however I recommend backing up your saves folder first.

So you suggest deleting the C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft folder? I've tried that many times. I've also tried multiple downloads of the .exe from minecraft.net. At first, I thought your suggestion was pure stupidity. But since repeating the same thing is considered crazy, I went for it. Only this time I went for a "pure install process" and you know what- it worked. Thanks for the nudge Conzy24.

Still, I'm sure that anybody who has never stopped playing would know these steps, but I didn't, and judging from some of the errors I see on these forums the "install process" for a current version of un-modded minecraft is not well documented or understood by people just getting started on Minecraft. The process was even more confusing for someone like me who didn't get the memos about versions 1.6 and above (I took a hiatus at 1.5.4), so I'm going to be a bit detailed about it all here, just for Google reference. I know a lot of this is on the Common 1.7 Troubleshooting Sticky at the top of the forums, but I wanted to add a few points of emphasis that I think it may have been missing.

How to get Minecraft going Step-By-Step
0) Make sure your video card drivers are up to date. Java 7 (which Minecraft MUST have to run) needs these to function right. In many cases that I have read, it is important to have these drivers set BEFORE you install Java.

1) Uninstall EVERY VERSION of Java on your machine. Java 6, Java 7, 32-bit, 64-bit, ones that aren't named (I've seen those to)... If you don't have a version of Java installed already, great! But in this day of the internet, it is HIGHLY unlikely that you don't have at least some kind of Java installed.
Side Note: Mojang changed all lot of the Java code when they released version 1.7. Before version 1.6, they were still optimizing the code for Java 6, which Oracle had depreciated a long time back. Also, Java 6 at that time was not entirely ready for 64-bit machines, so it worked best with a 32-bit version- even when using 64-bit processors. As of version 1.6 and up Mojang changed the Java code base to take advantage of the features in Java 7. Yay. You MUST use Java 7 for Minecraft to function properly. In addition, Java 6 does not jive with Java 7 on Windows machines (this is a different case for Unix machines, ie Mac and Linux. Trust me, I use Minecraft on those too).

2) Get Java 7 here: https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Side note: If you have a 32-bit processor (which is not very likely these days) OR a 32-bit OS (much more likely if you are running Vista or XP), then get the 32-bit version. Otherwise, pickup the 64-bit version. Do NOT use the big red button here: https://www.java.com/en/download/. It will download a version based on the type of web browser you use, which may not be what your system is best suited for using with Minecraft. I've seen cases were a 32-bit install of Chrome was working on a 64-bit machine, and that big red button only knows what browser you are using.

3) Download the latest Minecraft Launcher from here: https://minecraft.net/download
Side Note: Unlike EVERY VERSION before 1.6, this is not a straight forward run of minecraft as a Java file or EXE. It is Launcher which allows for setting all kinds of pre-run settings. But most importantly, it is a wrapper for any version of Minecraft you may still want to use. AND it has the development console. I love that! FYI, using older versions of Minecraft is very common in the Mod community.

4) If you have ANY files/folders from previous versions of Minecraft, you should delete them all (except the Save folder) BEFORE running the launcher.

5) When you run the EXE, it will verify your account with Mojang.

6) Before you can play, it will download all of the selected version files to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
You can set this location in the Launcher (Edit Profile) to something else, but parts of Java rely on this particular folder to function fully.

7) From here you should be good to go.

If you do ANY of those steps out of this particular order, then you risk corruption in Java or the .Minecraft files. Which means things may not work right from my very personal experience.

I'm sure there are people on the forums would disagree with some of the things I've said, but at least for me, this process was found by lots of trial and error- I think I pretty much tried every order of these steps you can.
