Hello everyone. I have played Minecraft on many machines, all homebuilds. My old one (dad's old workstation) had the following specs:
2.8ghz Core2 Duo
4GB DDR2 RAM
Windows XP 32 bit
Gigabyte HD 4350 with 512mb video ram
320gb Caviar blue HDD
I got mind blowing performance off the (rather piddly) computer! The monitor was an old 1280x1024 VGA Syncmaster. I always got 75FPS, fullscreen. The game was so enjoyable because it was just so smooth. The effect was like those super high framerate TV's you see at Walmart.
I then bought the parts for a new homebuild. I built a PC with the following specs:
I5 2500 at 3.3GHZ
16gb G.skill Ripjaw x
Windows 7 64 bit
Asus HD 6850 Directcuii graphics card with 2gb video ram
Seagate 1tb SSHD
The results? Not the best.
The game runs decent, lag spikes every now-and-then, but the smoothness isnt near as good. It looks more like 20FPS as apposed to my 1280x1024 DVI monitor's 75FPS capabilities. With vsync off, I get framerates in the hundreds. With vsync on, it stays at a constant 75FPS.
Why am I not getting the game to run very smooth on such a beast? Is it because of the newer versions? The old computer had beta 1.7.3, and my new one currently has 14w11b. Clearly a difference in versions...
Does anyone have any suggestions to get it to run better? Could it be that the Syncmaster was an awesome monitor and my surplus HP, Dell, and Princeton DVI monitors all suck? What gives?

I would doubt the problem is with your monitor. Most likely some of the hardware you got isn't functioning well in that stack. Are you sure you aren't experiencing any software difficulties? Maybe with a graphics card or something along those lines? Give me some more details of any errors you've gotten in the past week.

I have used 3 graphics cards previous to this, and they all did the same thing. 2 AMD, and one Nvidia.
