I deleted the .minecraft folder trying to reinstall Minecraft because after the launcher started, it won't let me play because the "play" button was gray and the profiles said "loading profiles..."
After deleting the .minecraft folder, I deleted Minecraft and downloaded it again from minecraft.net
After downloading, the launcher wouldn't even start properly. This was the dialogue:

First, go to the Programs and Features in Control Panel. Uninstall everything that says Java in the name. Then, go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp to re-install Java.
