So after wiping my mac today and installing java, I saw that new java v8 is out on the oracle site. I read one report that MC works just fine with v8 but I'm curious if it's worth it yet switching and what the performance impacts are. Any word on this yet?
I am running Java 8, and I've had no issues so far and there has been no noticeable performance issues, or improvements, as far as I am aware. If there is, then it is very minuscule. If Minecraft works fine for you now, I think it is better not to mess with Java unless you really need to. Don't fix what's not broken, as they say.
Ahh ty for the info, that helps. I was thinking of adding java 8 so I could test out a few other apps but I wasn't sure if MC would actually switch to 8 without prompting or not so I didn't dare as I have to start it on 7 with a script as it is on a mac. This way I know at least that if it does happen to load up 8 I won't scramble my setup/worlds and if it doesn't, it won't be a major loss as change in performance isn't staggering. Thanks again.
