I tried changing my launcher setting to use 2GB of RAM but it still only uses 494MB RAM
and if i press F3 the RAM usage keeps counting up from 460 to 494 and then theres a lag spike
how can i make it use more RAM i have 3GB available and these lag spikes is making it very hard to make my adventure map im working on how can i fix this?
Ok tell us the specs of your computer. MC needs about 1GB to run but if you dont have a good graphics card, or core, (core doesnt matter as much) then it will have lag. For me personally it doesnt lag at all since I've gotten my new graphics card.
When I got my new laptop I had this same issue. If this is on a laptop you need to make sure Minecraft is running with your discrete graphics, not your CPU graphics. By default settings on my laptop Minecraft will run off CPU graphics, you need to tell it to use discrete. Also, like everyone else said, allocating more RAM is always useful, especially if using large texturepacks!
