I hope someone here can help me. Today I upgraded from my old GTX570 gpu to a 770. Loaded it up, no issues I didn't even have any issues with Minecraft the first few times I loaded it, but I just loaded it up before and its a 1 frame a second (even less I suspect). I have absolutely no idea why it is this bad, even when I try to load 2 chunks its still extremely bad. At the moment I have 6 gig of RAM allocated to running Minecraft and ill post the rest of my specs below.
RAM - 16gb
OS - 64 bit
Processor Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.4 ghz 3.7 ghz
GPU - Nvidia GTX 770 4gb gddr5
You'll get far more help if you put this in the support section and also, when you do, don't reply to your post only update it. This is so the people who are looking to help can find you easier, they check "all unreplied topics."
It might be possible that your Minecraft isn't running with your dedicated GPU after you upgraded. I see that a lot. See if that's the problem.
Also, you won't need that much RAM unless you are using a really high resolution texture pack.
I suspected something like this but I can't find an option to switch it anywhere. Not in the Right Click menu or in the Nvidia Control Panel. Any other ways I could change it would be a massive help.
Ok I believe this will be the final post by me on this thread because I believe that it was just the world I was using (Custom map Stoneless Survival) which sucks because it was for a series I was doing...oh well. Thanks for the help guys, if it starts to play up again I might just be back.
Your world might be corrupt, that can cause extreme performance issues.
When you say your removed stone, does that mean your world looks like swiss cheese?
You might want to play with Advanced Open GL, trying both settings.

Its just a custom survival map I found, it is a limited world (about 500 blocks each side from the center) with ALL the stone removed.
If I come across this issue again I will try with OpenGL, thanks for all your help guys

Just an FYI hope this helps.

Also as soon as I close Minecraft and any left over Java binary files in my task manager the CPU usage goes down to below 5%

Retired StaffI'm assuming you have 8gb of ram? If so, you seem to have given minecraft ALL of it, which may be your issue. I reccomend lowering it to around 1-2gb.
Here's an example of how to change it:
The number being changed in the gif is in gigabytes.
I have 16gig of RAM, its funny it can't handle a world with stone removed but it can pretty easily handle the amplified world.
I used to run a .bat file before the launcher allowed an easier way to allocate RAM
