ever since a few updates ago (not sure when exactly, i think right before the first fishing expansion update) minecraft has refused to update. i've been wanting to play it recently, and a few days ago, tried getting all the bugs worked out step by step.
i succesfully went through the .minecraft delete/java removal and reinstallation process. then i needed to enable minidumps. but before i could that i had to download driver fusion. that prompted me to go to the amd/ati? site (i think, i did this part quickly and dind't pay much attention). the driver fusion app (the free version, important) said the download didn't complete because i used the free version (what a load of , what is this, the 90's?).
however, after i restarted the computer, minecraft actually loaded and worked for the first time in months. i happily played a new world for an hour or so, and turned it off. i also turned my computer off. jump ahead about 12 hours, i come home, turn it back on, my resolution is down to 800x600 or something, and minercraft won't load. i get on the esper help chat, and share them this gist: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/66d133bf1c8542159ec8
(also important to note, after restarting my computer later, my computer no longer recognizes the publisher when i doubleclick my minecraft icon on the desktop and prompts me with a run or cancel option instead of normally opening minecraft launcher)
i'm told i don't have a driver, and the helpful volunteer gave me a link to download driver_video_amd_28782A
whenever i run this, this is what happens:
-i double click it
-i'm asked if i want to run amd display driver (TOSHIBA CORPORATION)
-the window also tells me where the file will extract to, and gives me an options button (i can provide those if you need them), an exit button, and a start button
-when i press start, i see the download process and see where everything is being extracted to on my computer.
-when it finishes, i'm prompted by a program with a really old icon of an owl on a branch at night with a crescent moon behind him, titled tinstall.exe (AMD Display Driver, TOSHIBA CORPORATION). when i click continue, nothing happens, and minecraft is now an unrecognized publisher by vista and asks me if i would still like to run (minecraft launcher) it.
in the same pack the tinstall.exe app is in, there is a setup program for ATI, but it seems the software is from like 2009. i ran it, and restarted my computer, but everything is still not working, as i have described, but i did save my log of the ati installation if that would be helpful.
so this is where i am. hope you've had your coffee. i'm a completely hapless tech lunk and have no idea what to do now. i can copy minecraft error load chats maybe?
having a handful of problems here.
