I'm pretty new to Minecraft as well as Mac.
I recently wanted to try out Minecraft on my new mac so I went to download the launcher on minecraft.net
When I open the launcher, Minecraft won't even start.

If you have questions about the maps I post as attachments or Amidst and the like read this thread:
Using Amidst type programs to map and research Seeds
The latest release of Amidst, version 4.3-beta5 can be found here:
https://github.com/toolbox4minecraft/amidst/releases
You should probably also read this:
https://github.com/toolbox4minecraft/amidst/wiki/Using-Amidst
To do so, run the following command in a terminal:
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/{bin,texturepacks,launcher,resources,assets,libraries,versions,resourcepacks,options.txt,launcher_profiles.json,launcher.jar}Afterwards, re-run Minecraft.
