I looked around everywhere on here, and I couldn't find this problem addressed anywhere else. Sorry if I missed anything and this should have been posted elsewhere.
I have the latest version of Minecraft (1.7.5). I've been working on one world for a while now, and I've never had a problem with it before.
However, just yesterday, I found that a chunk near my house had disappeared. I figured that it must have been a standard glitch and that the chunk was still there (I could still see light coming from a lava pool inside the chunk. So I closed Minecraft and entered back in.
When I re-opened the world however, the missing chunk was still gone, and now an entire strip of chunks a short distance away had also disappeared. So I tried opening and re-opening my world a couple more times. Each time, some chunks would come back, while more would disappear overall. One time, I somehow got every chunk except the first one to disappear to come back, but the next time almost everything had disappeared again.
Currently, there are only about twenty chunks of my world still visible (with a couple more that return and then go away each time I go back in). Everything else is just void. It also takes forever to load the world.
This problem doesn't effect any of my other worlds, even copies of the problem world. I have OptiFine installed, and I've heard that it can cause chunk loading errors, but I tried putting the same world file on another computer that doesn't have OptiFine installed and the problem persisted.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I've been working on this world for a while now and I really don't want to loose it if I can avoid it.
It sounds like the world may have corrupted, but you can attempt to repair it with MCEdit.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.
Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
Thanks. Now, some of my house is inside these missing chunks. Will this fix remove any work done to them?
Thats sounds like u have more problems then normal Chunk bug. U can tray the tool "Minecraft-Region-Fixer" (its an command line tool) to remove the other problems. Maybe u will louse parts of u home if there now now longer on the right place.
Pleas upload u world as an Compressed file (like zip,7zip or rar) to an fielhoster and i try to fix the problems for u.
