I recently tried to install the latest update of Java runtime environment, 7u51, but for some reason, after trying to open the downloaded installer, it doesn't work. It shows up in task manager, but doesn't run. I made the mistake of uninstalling 7u45 before I did this, and now, Minecraft doesn't open for me at all. I've done 3 system restores back to points before I uninstalled 7u45, but Minecraft still will not open. The control panel area for Java doesn't even open, either. What do I need to do to fix this?
You need to reinstall Java.
First, go to the Programs and Features in Control Panel (Add and Remove Programs on XP). Uninstall everything that says Java in the name. Then, go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp to re-install Java.
The downloaded installers won't open. They do show up in task manager, and I've even let them run for 6 hours, but they still don't show up on screen for me to continue the process. I'll try it and see what happens, though.

I tried to uninstall the current version I have installed, (7u45) and reinstall it, but, it didn't work.
