So in my computer, I have a 290x, a 7870, and a nvidia 8400gs (mostly to power multiple monitors). And for some reason, minecraft decides to use the slow and old 8400gs to do the opengl rendering despite the operating system and the bios taking the 290x as the primary GPU. Fullscreen seems to make it run faster at 40-50fps instead of 9-12, but it turns anything displaying on the 8400gs's monitor into a slideshow.
Is there some setting I am missing to tell minecraft what gpu to use? Moving it to a different screen doesnt make a difference
I'm a little confused as to why your running 3 graphics cards all of different type and makes to run 3 displays.
I have the Gigabyte 7870 myself, and ti has 2 display ports, a HDMI and a DVI, more than enough for multiple monitors
Why not remove the nvidia card so that your running just AMD cards?
If running multiple cards isn't it better to have matching types so they can be linked via crossfire (for AMD) to work together.
I have currently 5 monitors actually, most are analog and the 290x is digital only. I plan on newer/more monitors so that's why I have three gpus.
Now after more testing, I set my default monitor in windows to one on my 7870, and it runs fine, getting 90 fps and I even spawned in 1000 mobs for fun and it took it at about 15fps.
Then I put the default monitor back to the 290x, and I get about 10fps again and 0fps with the 1000 chickens....
I'm not sure what the problem is anymore at this point. It doesnt seem like the nvidia is the problem anymore because it is not lagging out video playback on the nvidia monitors. So surely a 290x should get more then 10fps?
