I recently purchased a server rental on a host network and I am having issues playing the game.
I keep getting the following error:
Internal Exception: java.io.IOException: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.
I have tried the following steps to address the issue:
Allowing Minecraft though my firewall.
Disabling my firewall.
Turning off my virus protection.
Uninstalling and re-installing Minecraft.
Making sure my server host version and my version are the same.
My computer specs are:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130828-1532)
System Manufacturer: ASUS
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
At this point I am not sure if this is an error from my server host provider or my computer.
I also notice that if I have Mumble voice communication running it will shut down as well.
I have seen many articles on the web about this issue, but I have been unable to solve it.
First of all thank you for taking the time to answer my question Extreme_Heat.
I played for about five hours today with no issues at all. Then, late at night, I had about five of the errors.
When I followed your instructions I did get a blank screen.
I have opened a ticket with the hosting company and they are looking into a trace route that had a 4200 ping in the 15th hop to their server. The error that I am getting makes it seem like it is something I am running that is causing the connection to drop. Like I listed in my original post, I have no idea what that might be if it is indeed my error.
Now more than ever I believe it is the host servers issue.
The disconnections only happen in the evening. I spent a full Sunday playing and not a since problem surfaced. About eight pm PST time I began to have disconnects. Six total disconnects in about two hours.

Hi,
If you look in the Server console, do you see any connections from your IP address?
If not, then there is something locally wrong on your computer.
If you do, then there is something wrong server-end that is killing the connection.
Please do the following;
Enable telnet by following the instructions here: http://social.techne...net-client.aspx
Then, open a Command prompt window and use the command: For example, if my server was running on 10.0.0.1, port 25565, the command would be: When you do this, do you get an error or a blank screen?
If you got an error, the connection to the server failed completely otherwise you were able to connect to the server if the return was blank.
