I really don't understand any of this, but I have a feeling it's got something to do with my laptop, maybe blocking something?
Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Can you please try running minecraft 1.7.2, if that works then your graphics card isn't able to run minecraft 1.7.4 and above, to play 1.7.4+ you will need to purchase a newer laptop.

Thank you so much. This really helped. I'm in the market for a new laptop, but am wondering if I upgraded my graphics driver if I could play 1.7.4 and up?
