can't update past 1.5.2 and what is an fml please help

i'm not to much a computer wiz and well as the topic says i cannot update past 1.5.2 for some reason and when i try to join a server it says i do not have fml installed

you need to use the latest launcher to upgrade past 1.5.2, you can get it here
https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/launcher/Minecraft.exe

fml is forge mod loader, some servers that have mods require you to have the same mods they do.

the server your trying to access will (should) have a list of the mods needed and where to get them from on their website/forum
