I'm using Minecraft with fast video settings and very low rendering distance. This is working fine for me, exept for a continuing problem with hostile mob spawners. This problems is solved by increasing the rendering distance. However my computer is not able to handle this increased rendering distance.
Some hardware info:
CPU: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz × 2
Graphics: Intel® 945G(=onboard chip)
Now my question:
What do you think is the bottleneck of my hardware for this permance issue? In other words what component should be upgraded first to increase the performance?
How much ram does your graphic card have ? I found that by upping from 1g to 3g (ati hd 7900 with 3g gddr5) that seemed to smooth things out. Also, don't max out your video settings...ie keep the render distance around 8 or so, as 16 was really making my system wonky.

The CPU is likely a Pentium 4 HT.
System is to old of age to suffice for current minecraft versions.
