hey everyone, so I havent had MC installed for awhile now and was wanting to play again, I have never had this problem in the past since MC has been in early Beta. So I reinstalled MC and am not able to connect to any server (even with older patches) and am getting this error:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information:
been going at it for several hours now and have not been able to resolve this issue
- my firewall is off
- java is up to date
- have tried unistalling/reinstalling MC several times with restarting my PC
- my router/modem are set properly (roomate has no issue connecting to servers)
- tried the 2 outbound rules for port "25565", no luck
- and I have messed with my router trying to get things to work, but no luck
im at a loss here....anybody know how to fix this issue? I have seen that this has happened a lot in the past, but those were all a year+ ago and none of those "fixes" worked for me
thanks for all the help in advance, pictures below
bump, anyone? its been a week and still havent found a fix, im about to give up entirely and uninstall MC. Ive played this game since beta and have never had this issue up until now, which is* stupid, I usually can fix these problems myself, but this one is just beyond me
same here, Ive searched for hours on end trying to find a fix and yielding nothing, ive pretty much just given up trying to play anymore
ive got Windows 7 64-bit
and ive been playing MC on and off since early Beta, and this is the FIRST time I have had this issue, id really love to find a fix and be able to play again
I'm also having this issue. I've been playing Minecraft since Alpha and have never encountered this before. During morning I was playing, went out all day but when I came back that night and began playing again, I ran into this issue.

Try reinstalling the client and contacting your ISP to figure out the internet issue.
I had a similar problem and it and to do with my setup settings. I've been hearing about this patch impacting a bunch of people actually. Maybe wait a little bit to see if they update it?

ive tried reinstalling the client several times (too many to count) but ill give that another go and Ill have to contact my ISP about this, Ive had COX cable in the past when I was with my parents and had 0 issues with multiplayer. Even my roomate across the hall from me we share the same plan with 2 other guys from the same modem, and he has no problems logging into mutliplayer
and with the new 1.7.8 patch, still unable to connect
There's no sign of connectivity problems there. All the file downloads are done via HTTP, whereas the game communications uses it's own proprietary communications on non-standard ports. It's possible that your router (or an external firewall, depending upon what network you're on) is blocking everything that isn't HTTP or just minecraft in particular. Especially if you fiddled with your own router in an attempt to get it to work, you might have actually created a rule that is preventing it from working. In general the only reason to configure your router with a port 25565 rule is to host a server for friends on the internet.

ya, thats all thats there when I boot the launcher up
hmmm, everything I have done with my router/firewall to see if it worked, I reverted back to what it was before messing with it. so everything is what it should be. I even had my buddy double check my router settings and everything was good. is there anything specific with Java that I may not have setup properly? I have Java 7 update 51 and ill double check my firewall settings (which the firewall is off) and my router settings
EDIT: I just checked my router/firewall settings, nothing is there that shouldnt be there. everything is how its supposed to be
I just got the game last night and played with a couple of friends on the server then but when I got up today I was getting this error. I have spent about 5 hours now looking for a cure but everything I find doesn't work. With any server I try I still get the error. Also I should note I have 1.7.9.
well the way to figure it out is to use a tool like wireshark and look at the communications and where it goes wrong, but if I need to tell you about such a tool, there's little likelihood that you'll know how to use it.
