Okay, so I just downloaded java and minecraft on my new laptop. Now everytime I open the launcher it says "Ready to play" When I hit play the green bar will load up about half way or a little more then stop and sit there.
Did you buy Minecraft, or are you using a cracked version? If you are using a cracked version, that's probably the problem. If you bought it like a real gamer, then I would make sure you downloaded the right Java version for the right version of Windows. I would also make sure your Minecraft version is up-to-date.
