This is my first post here so please forgive if I missed any parts of the process.
I'm using the unmodified Minecraft game for singleplayer and multiplayer.
When I craft a map, open it and look at it, I can see where I am on the map, no problem.
Then I go back to the crafting table and add more
paper
to it, it doesn't zoom out to the next level. So I can't see more than just a few blocks around me on the map, still.
I read that holding or not holding shift may be the problem, but that's not causing this issue. It shows the same map on the left (on the crafting table) as it does on the right (in the output). For instance it shows the pre-crafted map as Map #0 and the map that would be created when you add more
paper
to it as Map #0. Crafting uses up the additional
paper
added, but does not change the map.
This happens in single player and in multiplayer. I've asked friends to craft the map bigger for me and they can do it with no problem, and it shows correctly larger in my view after they do the crafting.
This seems like a recent issue, within the past month or two, and I've worked around it in multiplayer, but single player gives me no options. Has this been reported before? A search turned up no instances of it.

Thank you for any assistance!
Workaround: Don't use shift when scaling maps.
