I kind of wanted to use my old laptop as an actor system for some video filming, instead of 2 clients on the same computer to prevent video recording lag. However, after transferring the launcher and the .minecraft folder over, I couldn't get the launcher to run the game. I've noticed this happen on my current computer before, but it usually is surmountable easily just by resizing the window. However, I know that my old laptop can run MC on the minimum settings, and it seems just to be the launcher that's holding it back. It worked fine with the ld launcher, but I need 1.6 at minimum to record.
How I was transferring it, was I was creating a new profile in the launcher, and made the .minecraft folder path directly onto a USB drive. I let download all the stuff, and ran it once, then transferred the new .minecraft folder to the old computer's appdata/roaming folder and updated the profile to the new folder location. I've done this many times before with the old launcher, and I don't know if the new launcher changes something drastically enough that this method doesn't work.
It has Java 7 update 51, and it is all 64 bit. The laptop has 4Gb of RAM, so that's not a problem either.
I need to note that the laptop is running offline ONLY, and doesn't have access to the internet. Don't ask about it....
Making a new profile on a USB will NOT make a copy of all the binaries on your USB. You will have to copy over the .minecraft folder in AppData to the AppData folder on the laptop.
As quark8790 said, your methodology is bad. And you haven't done this before with the old launcher, because it didn't support reconfiguring the game directory.
So basically, the launcher and everything that it uses/needs prior to getting to the point where you can even see the profiles are stored in the same old %APPDATA%/.minecraft tree. It's only the launching of a particular version of minecraft that stores stuff in the profile game directory.
To add onto this, trying to transfer files to another computer will void/invalidate the checksum values, so in order to fix, the computer needs to connect to the internet to update the values so the game can't be pirated easily. Make sure that the .minecraft folder is in roaming, then run the launcher/game, while connected to the internet. If you can't get a internet connection on the second com., then you're out of luck, simply because of the files needing to update, even if they really are legit.

Ok, so I'm totally screwing up doing it that way... Time to reinstall Windows :-I
The reason I was trying to do it with the launcher is that I have a lot of screenshots/old crash reports/mods/random crap that I didn't need on the other comp, and I just wanted a 'clean' install without having to do the whole workaround thing and try to connect it to the internet.
At any rate, the 'lag' also occurs on my quite fast, internet connected laptop too. Really I guess I should direct my question in that direction, as it gets annoying having to restart the launcher multiple times to get it to actually boot up.

WHAT? Reinstalling Windows is a teensy bit of an overreaction for some bad SHA1s. If what Gangsir says is true (which I don't doubt, SHA1 files are really touchy) you only have to delete the .minecraft folder you copied onto the internet-disabled comp, and then get it internet-enabled and let the launcher do its thing.
