Java hangs within seconds of starting. I was able to start and have no problems on 1.51, but every version higher than that I tried doesn't work. My graphics card drivers are up to date (Nvidia does that automatically, and there are new updates on a regular basis)
I'm not running full screen. I turned draw distance down as far as 2 chunks as well as the normal 8; slowed framerate down to 30 FPS and tried 120; tried OPEN GL both ON and OFF; ran it in compatibility mode; reinstalled both Minecraft (deleting the .minecraft folder and redoing the download) and Java, several times; and have not been running any mods (I already had the game on PS3, and the only reason I put it on my computer was so I could test out mods and try out larger worlds, but I haven't really gotten the chance). I am starting to feel like I wasted that 27 bucks. The PS3 version runs almost flawlessly (except when I run in a narrow cooridor and suddenly start taking damage and can't see as though sand or gravel had fallen on me)
This is really frustrating. I have steam and have run other games and demos just fine, so this (and Dolphin, but I don't expect something ilke that to necessarily work right) is the only thing I really have a problem with.

EDIT: Also like to add I tried both 32 and 64 bit Java, and altered the memory allocation via the "configure java" thing in the control panel.
So, after a lot of changes, it still crashes, but the things that cause the crashes seems to vary from usage to usage and I can stay on if I don't move too far. Most recently, opening boxes caused it to hang (no mods installed, so don't even bother asking me), as does doing a diagonal mine straight into a mountain. Running around the surface doesn't generally cause it to hang, but I can't do much that way. I increased the RAM in the Java argument, tried different versions of Java (both 64 bit and 32 bit, both the newest and some older implementations)
This is really frustrating.
