Hey there!
I use to transfer my saves pretty regularly between my laptop and my PC. But I have just been playing on my main PC for a while.
When I switched back to my laptop yesterday I moved the whole directory over -but when I went to launch it quit out and gave me a java error. (I wish I could remember what it was now)
So I just deleted all the minecraft folders on my laptop and did a fresh install. It worked, no error, and when I transferred just the save directory over, my world worked an looked normal ....but all my inventory is gone. Chest inventory is gone, art is gone, flowers in pots are gone, saddles and horses armor is gone. All my buildings are still okay though. Everything else is in its place.
So the exact same files still work on my PC. It just seems like there's just gotta be some info-containing-file that needs to be transferred between the two... that isn't in saves ...and I don't know what it is.
Any ideas?
I'm also a little unsettled that files will work on one computer and not the other. The PC is OLD and the laptop is brand new. Both have windows 7. It feels less relevant but I wouldn't mind any ideas on that as well. I updated Java to the most recent version, on both, on Monday I think.
Ahhhh..... yeah. Okay. Doh. I thought they were both the most current because I have it set to automatically update, but it looks like it's 1.7.4 (and only 1.7.4) on my laptop and 14w08a/1.7.2 on my PC (with several of previous versions: 1.6.2 to 1.7.2 and 13w36b to 14w08a if that would make any difference) Crap assumption on my part. Thank you ....And I just realized I'm not 100% clear on the terminology for all of these things.... so I probably need to go do some reading right quick. And it turns out I was playing on Dev mode on my PC. Which I'm also just assuming would make a difference.
Is there a quick fix that won't ruin my still-working-saved-game? Now I'm worried that if I update my PC's version all my stuff will be gone, like it is on my laptop. X( How should I do this...
So I'm uploading the map anyway, but it's huge. Holy hell, I have no idea why it's 600megs. Is that normal? :/ ...It's my biggest in-game world by far, but all the other maps I have made are just like, I don't know,... 12 megs. My internet is slow today so it will be about an hour and a half past the time-stamp on this post before it's done uploading over here: http://melorasworld.com/minecraft ...in case it is worth looking at after all. (thanks!)

OK thats u Problem. U PC have the new Snapshot and u Laptop got the old 1.7. Match change with the upcoming 1.8.
New Blocks (ors, wood ...) and the Block/Item ID´s are total recreated.
I think u Leptop freeze at the tray to remove all the unknown blocks.
It will be no problem if both have the same version (If u Laptop can run the 1.8 Version).
(No u cant go back to 1.7 with an world that already played with the new snapshot)

I look around u map (take my a little time ,-) and i think u use u horses a lot to ride around u world. (And build on many places)
Thats way u world are so big. (I don´t think that i can this crop for u. To many handmade buildings on all places)
Btw. I like some of u buildings/style. Remembers my on my on worlds. (Our 12 Server worlds eat 1.6 GB compressed, u dont have to worry about u 600 MB. .-))
SInce I can't make sense of that I'm going to jump in here.
Melora, you are running 14w08a on your PC, and this is a pre1.8 snapshot. That means that your world has been changed to the upcoming 1.8 format for stored items. Hopefully everything stays compatible between the snapshots and the final 1.8 or else you will be in trouble. Bottom line, your save is now not compatible with any release older than a 1.8 snapshot, i.e. it is NOT compatible with 1.7
In the future you should only run snapshots on copies of your world, there is no guarantee that changes they make in a snapshot will not be tossed (for example if it turns out some idea just isn't working) making a save compatible with only that one particular snapshot an no official releases of Minecraft at all.
