I am a relatively new player, and I've really wanted to go through and beat the EnderDragon with my friends. So I decided I would host my own server so that we could play together.
I am using AT&T Uverse Internet with a Motorola NVG510 ADSL2+ modem.
I created a server, did the port forwarding, and all the other requirements needed to make my server available. To test this, after the server was set up, I went to canyouseeme.org to check that my IP was accessible. It worked!
I found, however, that when I tried to join my server from my computer, I couldn't find it. So after much Googling I discovered that my router does not support something called NAT Loopbacking, which basically means that other people can see and join my server, but I can't.
So my question is, what can I do to bypass this lack of NAT Loopback support? I cannot replaced the router because my internet connection is "hardwired" into it, and I can only use another router supported by AT&T (but which would still not have NAT Loopback Support).
I read that I might be able to hook up a router to the internet gateway router (NVG510), but I haven't found a clear answer, and I was hoping someone here either had a similar issue or knew a solution.
Nevermind everyone! I figured out that because I am hosting the server on my own computer, I could join it by simply typing "localhost" into the address bar.
Thanks for all the help! I couldn't have done it without you
Yep, joining a server hosted on the same computer just requires you type 127.0.0.1 or "localhost." A sever on the same network needs "internal_ip_address:port_number" and a server on another network needs "external_ip_adress:port_number."
