"serif">Okay, so... I'm very new Minecraft. I originally downloaded the game onto my PC, which ran it great until the entire computer decided to more-or-less give up and die. (Motherboard and/or graphics card is/are shot - nothing to do with MC.)
"serif">I had tried running the MC Demo on my laptop, which is pretty old, and it ran fine. After my PC stopped working, I decided to try MC on my laptop, since the demo had worked. It worked great for about a half an hour... and then it crashed my laptop.
"serif">DxDiag is under the spoiler cut below. Should my laptop actually be able to run MC? Everywhere else I've looked I've been getting conflicting information. I'm wondering if I'm out of luck playing MC until I purchase a new PC, or if something on my laptop might just need updating or something. It is an older model, so I wouldn't be surprised if it just can't run it, but the demo did run fine, and it was running smoothly before the whole laptop crashed...
No, thankfully no blue screen of death. Screen all of a sudden goes a multitude of colors, game window disappears, start bars disappears, desktop bg disappears, etc. No mouse appears, and the laptop doesn't respond to any key being pressed or movements on the keypad. I can't remember if it shut itself off or if I finally got it to shut down using the power button. The laptop started up Windows and such fine the next day, but I haven't risked trying MC on it again since.
Tried it. NVIDIA Installer came back with, "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue. This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." For what it's worth, I went into Device Manager and tried updating the drivers manually - it comes back and says I already have the best ones installed.
