Ok so I currently have a Let's play series going. I played on it on the snapshots and got tons of items. I wanted to play multiplayer so I switched back to 1.7.4 to play multiplayer. Then logged into my lets play world without switching back to snapshots. NOW everything I had is gone out of my furnaces and chests etc. I had a lot and need to film asap! SOMEONE please help. Am I screwed?I don't have a backup for the world either just fyi.
Have you put up a world download for your Let's Play series? You could restore from there.
If not, the world has most likely been overwritten by the game. Perhaps other more experienced members could help if the above is not the case.

I have discovered a truly remarkable proof of this, which this margin is too small to contain.

Doing a LP and backing up the world on regular basis should be common sense, even more so when you are using the snapshots. You are screwed I'm afraid, time to whip out an editor and add items back into your world based on what you remember.
The only thing you can do is open to LAN and enable cheats so you can give yourself your items back; the problem (and I'm surprised they haven't put a warning up yet, though they do warn about world corruption when you enable snapshots, but absolutely must do so when 1.8 comes out, or make it so that old versions don't see 1.8+ worlds) is that the snapshots have changed the way items are saved and older versions can't recognize the new item format (even older versions, like 1.6.4, result in even worse consequences; I tested it and the game crashed, wiping level.dat and corrupting chunks).
Also, you should make a new profile in the launcher and change the save location for your world, so you can never accidentally load it in the wrong version; I do this myself.
They don't have to add any warnings its common sense. And it has been said for years that you have to backup your worlds, specially when new versions come up, and now with the new launcher, when changing versions. Sadly if you didn't, there's nothing you can do to make it go back to what it was, all new things were changed, and that's done and saved in the world. In the old days (don't know if it works now) we were able to close with alt+f4 and world wouldns save the latest changes but now who knows.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
