I've been running fine in a single player survival easy but suddenly it decides that it's not going to let me break a few very important blocks:

Wood and leaves(fences includes)
Dirt
Sand
Gravel

When holding a diamond pick axe I can break sand stone, cobble stone, stone and such but without it, I don't get the animation of it punching anything. Yes, I'm clicking and holding.

I can still break:

glass
torches
kill animals

Going into /gamemode 1 (through opening lan and allowing cheats) (creative mode) I can still break everything. I haven't tried hardcore mode yet but I have a feeling it'll be the same story (can't break).

Help would be greatly loved, as I finally found diamond and a large system of lava pools I've been clearing the area around. I'd love not to have to start over...

welp.... now i feel like an idiot..... didn't even realize what the difference was between adventure mode and survival.... or how i got stuck in adventure....
