Recently, when I play Minecraft on my laptop (which is a Dell Studio 1555) it is at a constant 50% of CPU (but it runs any other game just fine). The computer's fan kicks in after a while of playing, and eventually it shuts off completely without warning. I never had this problem before the 1.4 update, but after I returned to Minecraft when the 1.7 update was released this is the problem I encountered. Is anyone having this same problem? Is there some way I can fix it?
Create a new world, does this still occur? If not, then the world you are in may be corrupt, and is putting extra stress on your computer. You may need to review the interior of your tower unit to improve air circulation and cooling.

It happens on all worlds and servers that I try to play on. I'll have to check how the air flow from the fan is, maybe clean it and see if that helps.
I'm running on a 2011 MBP 17" with 2.4GHz i7 processor and lately MC has been cranking up my CPU's to around 600% since I updated to 1.7.4
At first I thought I was running to many programs, so naturally I turned everything off, still happened. Then I though maybe it was java updates, nope, fully updated. Next step, update the OS and try Mavericks, still happened. So yesterday I bit the bullet and wiped my computer and started from scratch, clean slate and with just MC running 600% CPU utilization.
I have set my FPS to 100, 75, 50, 30 no difference. It does it in single player, or multiplayer. This is really frustrating.
