I have been playing minecraft of my mac since pre-alpha, and have recently updated to the new launcher, I allocated 4gb of ram to minecraft (my mac is 64 bit), yet it still lags. How can i allow it to use more of it's allocated memory than 100mb or 200mb, it is very laggy.
My FPS and etc. had been fine up until 1.7.4, previously I could play on far render distance and have no troubles at all, but now I have trouble playing on short render distance. In the post above I am talking about the allocated memory which says only 96mb, where I have allocated 4gbs to Minecraft, why does it only allocate so little, shouldn't it allocate the full 4 gigs.

It only uses as much as it need. Forcing it to use more won't help at all. If you have issues running 1.7.4, then use 1.7.2 instead. 1.7.4 only introduced Twitch integration, and you can connect to 1.7.4 servers with 1.7.2 clients.

Retired StaffCreate a new world, does it still occur? If not then the world is corrupted, and has erroring chunks or entities impacting performance.
