Pretty much anything that's not a block is an entity. What are you using to measure the number of entities anyways? And how is this a "problem?" does it lower your frame rate?
You can use MCEdit to analyze your world and find out what the entities are (all you have to do is open the world, then press Ctrl+A to select all, then click the analyze button on the menu on the left side), and possibly where they are located if they are all in one spot (there's an option to show entities, which appear even outside of the view distance and through the ground).
For example, here is an analysis for my current world:
Now that sounds like a lot of entities but that is for the entire world; you'll want to focus on the area where you are when you have such a high entity count (it will only show entities in loaded chunks, so it shouldn't be 600 everywhere).
Also, to the poster who said it is bats, the game has a mob cap for every type of mod, with bats ambient mobs (bats) being capped to 16 (it can go higher as the cap is only checked before spawning, particularly with squid in oceans, despite water mobs being capped to only 5). Also, hostile mobs holding items don't add to the hostile mob cap, which is 79, or despawn (except on Peaceful), so chicken jockeys can cause serious problems over time (but you are on Peaceful).
In addition, to the poster who asked how to see the number of entities, press F3.

I am getting about 5 frames per second, and I am using f3 to know the number of entities.
The area that is getting all the lag has no animal farms.

Have you used my suggestion to use MCEdit to see what/where the entities are? I suspect a corrupt chunk, which are notorious for making the game spawn huge numbers of entities, but the cause could also be more innocuous. This is likely if all of the entities appear in a single spot in a single chunk (as noted, click on the show button at the top and select show entities if it isn't already selected; they will appear as red outlined boxes, also select show items, which will be green).
Here is an example of what you should see:
Note again that you only need to analyze the area you are in when you get a high entity count, which will help separate the excess entities from all of the normal ones. Also, you can try uploading your world (use Mediafire or Dropbox) and a description of the problem in this thread and somebody will be able to fix it.
Baseball, then Minecraft.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
