Hello, I usually don't post on forums but I've become so frustrated with this issue and have no idea what to do.
My sister and I both purchased Minecraft for our computers about a month ago. We have played several hours on a LAN server together, and it has worked flawlessly until 2 days ago (January 20). In mid-game, we were hit with some pretty bad lag. Blocks wouldn't break, mobs wouldn't move, and chunks wouldn't load. The lag persisted until my sister left the game. Ever since then, she has been unable to properly join.
Whenever I host a LAN server, everything is normal. The moment she "joins", I am hit with severe stuttering and constant freezing, for a few minutes before Minecraft crashes. I put "joins" in quotes because on her computer, she gets stuck on the loading screen, so she never actually appears in the server. Also, whenever Minecraft crashes on my PC, there is no error report. I've even tried several different methods for obtaining the report manually and those haven't had any result. After a crash, the launcher is completely frozen and I am unable to click anything in it and cannot copy and paste from the Developer log. CPU usage is at 100% from Java after a crash until I force kill it. It might be worth noting that playing Minecraft in a smaller window seems to reduce the stuttering a bit, and does not crash. The stuttering and frequency of crashing increases the larger I set the window size...
I have no idea where this issue came from, why it arose, and what to do to make it go away. I've googled the heck out of this and not a single fix has resolved this problem. I have done the basics already; updated drivers, Java, and reinstalled both Java and Minecraft. If anyone can please help me find out what the heck is going on, I would greatly appreciate it.
If your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit. Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.

Thank you for the speedy reply and suggestion, it is greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately this did not solve the problem. The world still suffers from the lag as soon as she joins. Though you may be right about the world being corrupted. Out of curiosity, I created a new world and hosted it, and she could join flawlessly like before, and it plays completely lag-free. I can't believe I didn't think of testing this before.
If the previous world is indeed corrupted, (and the solution you suggested didn't seem to resolve it) is there any other way to get it working again?
Thank you again for your help.
It may be of another cause, such as erroring entities.
In order to remove entities from a map, follow these steps. Warning: This will delete any and all entities in the selected region, including tamed animals! Open the map in MCEdit, select the affected region or use CTRL-A to select the whole world, then click on 'Delete Entities' in the menu on the left hand side.
I attempted to delete the entities, and let MCEdit do it's thing for over a good hour, though it displayed "Not Responding" so I had to force quit it. But, on the plus side, I did resolve the issue. I messed around in MCEdit and found where my sister's spawn point was. I deleted the surrounding chunks, saved, and reloaded the world. She was able to join! No more lag!! I'm so thrilled. My world is saved.
Thank you so much for your help. I've learned a ton about the corruption that can happen inside Minecraft worlds and will be backing them up from now on.
Thanks again!
