*** well... but keep in mind that Windows Update doesn't (usually? ever?) provide drivers that support Open GL (required for Minecraft)
***** I'll give you a free tip: You do NOT buy Windows upgrades. If you want a new version of Windows, you buy a new computer. By the time a new version of windows comes out your existing computer is completely obsolete* and parts of it won't be supported. If you don't want to buy a new computer, then stick with the OS you've got. Buy a decent computer, run it into the ground. Repeat.
* this even includes computers that ship just prior to a new version of windows being released. You'd be surprised how many people were burnt by computers that were sold as being "ready" for the next version of windows.
The OP didn't say that they upgraded from windows 8.... might have been win 7
Mm, good point. Just seemed like the most likely possibility. OP, attempt to get whatever version of Windows you had prior to getting Windows 8.1, whether it was Windows 8 or Windows Vista.

Retired StaffBut if MC was working for him before when running Windows 8 and not now that hes updated to 8.1 it seems like that's what has caused it.

Retired StaffSome will but your particular one can't run with 8.1, if you were running 8 before I suggest downgrading to it.
