So basically, my minecraft was running slow, so I looked up how to allocate more ram. After doing so, I upgraded from 1 gb to 4 gb. Thinking this would run four times faster, I started up minecraft only to find that it was running the same speed as normal. I checked in f3 mode, and I see this in the memory tab:
Note: The current used memory is about 3-4 times what it normally is. The average usage is somewhere between 60 and 80 mb.
I played around with different values for the allocated ram, but it still said it was only using the same old amount. So my question is, how do I make it use more of the four gigabytes I gave it?
you CANNOT. It will use what it needs to use. No more, no less. The only thing you are affecting is how often garbage collection runs, how much garbage memory will be processed, and therefore how long it will take when it runs.
