After logging into one of my Survival worlds last night, I noticed right away that the game was a little glitchy - there was serious lag when trying to open chests, doors, interacting with villagers ect, and then I found a chunk error in the corner of my village.
I tried all the tricks to get rid of it (logging in and out, F3 + A, changing various video settings) but it wouldn't go away. A single chicken fell into this chunk, and pretty soon I had over 1000 flooding my village o.O They seemed to multiply exponentially whenever I logged in!
After logging in and out a few times, only a few chunks in the world would even load at all, but this morning the world loaded fully again (though the chunk error remained, and the lag caused by 1000+ chickens forced me to leave the village lol). I'm now also having issues falling through structures upon entering the world (some times falling all the way through bedrock, and having to log out again). I'm afraid I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to trying to fix this issue, and haven't found any reliable answers after searching the web - I also failed to back up this world at all prior to this chunk error >< Is there any way to fix this?
The problem has been solved. I sent a copy of the world to a friend, and they were able to reset the bad chunk area using something called Region Fixer.
It spawned a snowy biome in the reset area and destroyed the fence there (that I've since reconstructed), but I've encountered no problems since, and the chickens have thankfully stopped respawning!

I use a Mac OS 10.9, if that helps.
