find youre way to the control panel in oure computer under system and add / remove programs you can look there and find out if you have any other instances of java installed that you do not like or want on your computer. also pressing ctrl + shift+ esc will bring up the task manager and allow you to turn off and processes that are not needed.

what do you mean if that doesnt work? like that other java is still running? if its still running youre going to have to figure out what keeps making that other java instance run and stop that instead. when i start minecraft i get 2 javaw processes running. one is the game and one is the launcher i can stop the launcher one and my game will not shut down. by using ctrl + shift + esc you can moinitor the new javaw process and choose end process not end process tree and that will make it so that you only have a single javaw running.

So do I just go to task manager and right click the other java process that is running in the background and right click and go to details and then end the task and that will bring up the "do you want to end this process and you will lose any unsaved data'?...Did I do it right?

So how do I make it so I can run only one Java process all the time? because whenever I play minecraft after I close it the second java process is there, its not there when I end it but then it pops up again after I close minecraft and play it again.
2. Reinstall java (from the Sun website only). If you have a 64-bit operating system, you should install 32 bit java first and then 64 bit java. Read that linked page for details.
3. Close *all* other programs - including any anti-virus, firewall, ad-blocker. Spotify, email notification, Apple iTunes, adobe updater... *everything*. Just temporarily. If you're using Windows firewall - turn it off.

you really dont. that second process is just the launcher its weird how the launcher would cause so much trouble. its something youd have to close out each time
