I'm able to play single player no problem, but am crashing as soon as I connect to a multiplayer server. Computer has been freshly installed with Windows 8 64-bit and Java 64-bit, all updated to the lasted patches.
Here's the error log:

Googled around, couldn't find others with the same problem. Removed and reinstalled Java. I did try multiple servers to rule that out as well as multiple internet connections at various places. Also removed my .minecraft folder and reinstalled both 1.7.2 and 1.7.4.
You need to reinstall Java.
First, go to the Programs and Features in Control Panel. Uninstall everything that says Java in the name. Then, go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp to re-install Java.
Thank you for the reply. As I mentioned I had already removed and reinstalled java, but to be sure I ran javara to remove all remnants of java from my system, then manually downloaded and installed java 64-bit since I'm running Windows 8 64-bit. Still getting same error log.
Thanks again for your time.
