Hello I recently build a PC about 3 months ago and lately Norton has been notifying me about Minecraft using 100% CPU. Is there any reason for this? I have a i7 4770K not O/C with 16GB Vengeance Ram, and Nvidia GeForce 780. Does anyone know why it uses so many resources?
It definitely should not be using that much of your resources. That being said I have no idea what would make it do that. Are you sure you have the right Java installed? That is a good of place as any to start.

Are you running with Vsync turned off? If so, and if FPS is set to Unlimited/Max FPS Minecraft will work as hard as it can, limited only by the CPU/GPU.
There's no reason to play with Vsync turned off if you otherwise get a much higher framerate; Vsync will force Minecraft to run at your monitor's refresh rate, usually 60 Hz (FPS); regardless of whether 100 FPS would be visually smoother, your monitor itself limits the maximum framerate that you can see.
Although, if I run without Vsync I only get around 60-70% CPU usage, probably because my CPU is more powerful than my GPU; you appear to have the opposite situation (not that I've tested this theory, but it makes sense).
Also, did it start after upgrading to a newer version of Minecraft? 1.7 made some changes to the video settings, with 1.7.4 enabling render distances above 8 chunks to work properly, so if you had it set to 16 it will now be rendering at that distance and 16 chunks is a lot more demanding than 8 chunks, or the 10 chunks that "Far" render distance was effectively limited to in 1.3.1-1.6.4 (due to the internal server, at least in singleplayer unless you used Optifine).
Yeah I have been having this issue since Before. A friend of mine said that it happens because Minecraft only uses 1 core and not all 8 of mine, hence putting all the weight in that single core. I Don't know if that's true that's what he said. Even if I max everything out it shouldn't use 1/8 of what it is using, considering my specs. Also is there a specific Java for Minecraft?

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
