Hey im having some issues with RAM in minecraft. For some reason I try and allot more RAM but minecraft's Used Memory in F3 won't increase. Now the reason I need more RAM is while playing mods(although this is a problem occurring in unmodified minecraft aswell) my used memory hits 100% i get a massive frame drop and this occurs every 5-10 seconds making the game unplayable. I have tried allotting more RAM using JVM parameters and I have tried just generally allotting java more memory but nothing seems to help. My Used Memory will not go above 455mb. The weird thing is when i installed a Linux Ubunutu partition on my harddrive and in Linux I could alot more RAM to minecraft no problem, sadly Linux caused too many issues and i had to delete it.. Help would be much appreciated.
System Specs:
64-bit Windows 7
Java 7 Update45 64 bit
16 GB RAM
Intel i5 3570K
AMD HD 7870
Can we see the JVM argument you're giving to give MC more RAM?
-Xmx2048M I also noticed that although my actual Java arguments are: -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M that while i was searching in System Information<Software environment<environment variables my _JAVA_OPTIONS is -Xmx512M. Im not sure if that's important
I'm having the same issue. i have adjusted the JVM arguments a hundred times and about 1 out of 20 times it will stay but only for a few minutes. i recently re-installed the game due to a system restore. i am completely up to date and i am using the current 64 bit java
no such variables exist. at least for me that is. Its odd it works once out of every couple of trys but as soon as i exit minecraft. it resets to 455mb
arbrog, something or someone has set that variable and it affects every Java program that you run. When you configure minecraft to set that parameter, minecraft does it in a way that doesn't affect other programs.
You need to delete that variable which conflicts with what minecraft is trying to do.

I have tried just adjusting it in the Minecraft launcher but it makes no difference, if java is only allotting programs 512 mb it wont matter how much I try to give it. Ill try deleting it.Yeah that fixed it. I just had to delete that variable. I dont know what set the _java_options to that but its fine now so thank you.
got a screen cap of the F3 screen?
Also another place for you to look is in the "snooper" data viewable via the options menu . one of the lines will be the Java arguments that were used.

Idk. Worth a try anyway.

Curse PremiumDo it through the Minecraft Launcher. Don't touch the system variables, they are NOT required.
Here's what I've got. I'm lost
