I've been playing my game normally but I notice sometimes after leaving the game up for a prolonged period of time it get's a bit laggy so every so often I close out and reload minecraft and everything is fine.
Anyways I was playing earlier and did the usual routine of closing out and coming back to help with some lag and this time around it got stuck on downloading terrain, which after a while will eventually crash and I now can't open my world.
I know it's not my client because I can still open my other worlds just fine, but my main survival world just crashes every time.

I had noticed a large amount of lag the past few days and there was a chunk wouldn't load a few days prior to this happening so I had my suspicions that this was the case.
I just hope the tool will fix it because I had a journal here on the forums and was attempting a LP series which actually had gotten me some subs on YouTube. I'd really hate to lose the save.

Well I ran the tool. The only thing which came up is two counts of "wrong l" After numerous attempts to get the world started I'm not getting the message that minecraft has run out of memory. I have done a lot of work and tons of hoppers and other redstone stuff in the world which may be the problem. I guess I'll have to allocate more memory to java or something because I'm not sure what else I can do at this point.

Well I went ahead and allocated 4 gigs to minecraft of my 8 instead of the default 1G and the I got the world to load thankfully. I think I may need to cool it on the hoppers and redstone stuff because I have a feeling that may be where all this lag is coming from. That and the fact that arrows shot from skeletons or infinity bows don't despawn still as of the early 1.7 snap shots. Hopefully this will keep me going. Thanks for the help Extreme_Heat.
Edit: I may have spoken too soon. The world barely loaded.. One single chunk of the world loaded and when i got in the world I fell to past -1500 Y after I walked off the chunk.. Not too thrilled right now.

If your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit. Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.

(Region Repair function is an good tool in Mc-Edit but not always work)
I think some ware on u world are massive entities (Animals/Monsters) ore some are wrong located.
The tricky part is to find them and delete them.
(If the are wrong locate u see them one one place and have to delete them on an other place.)

Hmm. Well I downloaded MCEdit and am trying to figure it out. I'm not quite sure how this all works. I tried to load up my world and the program defaults to the C drive in roaming and AppData so I tried to copy it over and then it wouldn't load and said it was read only, I then opened it through the Open Levels option and got into my world through that.
I tried to repair as soon as I loaded in and when it said completed pretty quickly, and to go to the console to read the details, which didn't come up, then I used the region selector, selected the entire area I've been building at and then repaired the regions again without any confirmation on the console. I just hit save and it told me to wait 7 minutes so I guess I'll wait it out and see if I can load in.
I highly doubt that I'll be able to load in, I don't think I actually fixed anything.
I may go the route and load up the world through FileHoster like you suggested. Is there any specific format you guys prefer? Zips, rar, etc?

Do what you need to do, the only areas I care about are the stronghold, the mesa, and where my base is. If you need to even get rid of those it won't be the end of the world.

- And wat version u use (has used) as u build u base. (2 Defect chunks are near there and i want to regenerate them with the right biom generator.)
I tray an regenerate with 1.7.4 and it looks good. I think i upload it and gifit to u uncroopt. (take to long to found u stronghold.)
But i have to remove some chunks in the east. (to many not complete generated chunks there, just to take sure.)

There is no original level.dat file? I archived the entire save folder without changing anything so unless I'm missing something please let me know so I can get it for you. Are you sure it's not the file level.dat_mcr or level.dat_old? It would appear they just changed the file extension name. When I opened my world in MCEdit I used the level.dat_old file and it worked.
As far as the strong hold goes, I have a screen shot with the coordinates. It's at x = 27, y = 26, z = -940.
And finally, the world was generated in 1.7.2 and I've been using 1.7.4 since it was released. I don't believe anything in the terrain generation was changed in 1.7.4 though so the exploring I've done since updating versions shouldn't affect anything.
Oh well I just noticed that there is a level.dat file for all my other worlds. Maybe it's because the world crashed while trying to load and the session lock is in place still?

OK:
- U stronghold is still there.
- Only old Spawnarryer and far east chunks are removed. (Spawn for safe MB and fare east because strange not generated chunks)
- The 2 defect chunks near u building are regenerate (looks good).
- Some dislocated entities are removed.
