Ok...this might sound weird(or not) but its true: I still run on a Windows XP (And I am upgrading soon) and every time I play Minecraft SSP, I get stabbed by a bunch of lag spikes! But...when I play on a server with a lot of blocks and players, I don't lag at all! Why is that? Is it because of the host of the server? Idk...I just find it weird.
EDIT: I do not know if this should in "Discussion" section. So sorry if I post my topic here.

The server itself is handling some of it server-side, which takes the load off of your computer. In singleplayer, it does everything that's normally client side AND everything normally server side on your computer.
