My 1.7.4 vanilla client starts up fine and dandy, and I can navigate in the main menu. However, when I try to connect to a server, it says "Connecting," then "logging in", and then the client crashes.
The similar happens when starting up a Single Player world.
This has only been happening since the 1.7.2 and .7.4 updates.

That crash seems to be caused by either an exception when contacting the skin server, or one of your Minecraft settings are set wrong.
Please see this guide for information on reinstalling Minecraft.
I've also pushed an update to the launcher, so if you try and reproduce the issue, the launcher should now notify you on how to solve the issue.
