Hello, my name is Pranav and my IGN is PranavVK. I have come to this forums sometime last year, but I left rather soon because I didn't really need it and I didn't think it was the official MC forums (now I know it is).

Anyways, my problem is that recently my computer got a virus or something and it was acting up. This is a family computer and I am only 12 yrs old, so MC isn't this comps top priority nor do I know a lot of the info.

So my dad backed up all the files and stuff, so just the programs got deleted. So today, I got MC again and all my single player and multiplayer worlds are gone. I'm not too bothered about the multiplayer worlds, but losing the single-player worlds struck me pretty hard as I put a lot of effort into my things.

SO my question is how can I recover my stuff?

I remember one time, I went through the MC files and was able to see the files for my single-player worlds. I cannot remember how to get there, so can u tell me how if u get what I am talking about?

If you tell me and I go there and my world aren't there is it goodbye forever? And if it is, do I still have a chance to recover it? Either way, what is my next step to help me recover my lost worlds?

could u at least tell me how I can view my saved world files? It will make me feel a little better. thanks.

but its saved in the files. shouldn't it still be there cuz my dad backed up that? plus, one time my minecraft crashed really badly while using world edit on a world. the world was gone from the single-player thing but I could still see it in the world files

I'm assuming you are using Windows;

By default, Minecraft saves its files in

C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves

If your Dad backed up that folder, then you can find it; it'll have folders for each of your worlds.

Let's say, for example, you have a world called "Pranav's World".

You should be able to find, in the backup, a folder called

......<wherever the backup is>...\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves\Pranav's World

You could also use "find" and put in the name of the world to find it.

If you copy that folder, and paste it into

C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves

...so that there's...

C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves\Pranav's World

...then you should be able to open it again.

Everything gone... nearly two years... one stupid virus... all gone...

actually we have Norton 360 already, I guess for some reason it didn't sense it. no, it didn't expire yet.

Also, in future, take a copy of that 'saves' folder sometimes. Put it on a thumb-drive or something. Then you'll have a safe copy, if anything ever happens again.

oh ok, that's sounds nice, but this isn't my personal computer but a "family" computer so my parents and I (I have no siblings) use it. so I cant really get anything new but thx though
