Whenever I log into Minecraft 1.7.2 or 1.7.4, there are extreme lag spikes, where my framerate will drop to zero and go back up to 20 or so. There are also framerate flickers in the home screen, as well. This happens in both single-player and multi-player, the lag being so bad that whenever i move, the screen is like 'movestop, movestop, movestop' , rendering the game unplayable.
All my settings are set at the lowest possible, with the render distance set at 8 chunks and the max framerate set at 120FPS. Dropping the max framerate lower also does not help.
I have tried installing Forge for 1.7.2, and Optifine, but neither work.
I have also tried allocating more RAM to Minecraft, that also has not worked.
My system specs are:
Version: Windows XP service pack 3
Processors: 3 AMD Phenomâ„¢ 8450 Triple-Core Processors
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7025 / NVIDIA nForce 630a
Java: 1.7.0_45
I have archived footage on Twitch showing this lag in action:
Thanks for the help, but this is unlikely to be the issue because recently it fixed itself (became unlaggy) then promptly broke again after the next login with no changes to the hardware.
It was interesting that when it was unlaggy, the launcher said 'Ready to download and play Minecraft 1.7.4' even though there was no downloading to be done, as I had already downloaded 1.7.4. Also, when it does lag, it always says 'Ready to play Minecraft 1.7.4'.
Update: I think I have now made the game more playable by adjusting the rendering, it seems like the partial rollout of the new rendering system in 1.7 may have been the cause of my lag spikes.
Thanks for all the help.

If anyone could help me, that would be much appreciated.
