So yesterday I opened minecraft 1.6.4 and everything seems to work well. No problems at all. After that I saw that my favorite server requires 1.7.4 for me to enter it. So I exit my minecraft and opened it. I saw that the optifine mod has been updated, so I downloaded it then opened and installed it. After the installation, I opened the minecraft launcher and everything seems to work fine. I pressed play and it didn't open minecraft. I pressed it a couple of times (3-5 times) and it still doesn't work. I then create a new profile and set the profile to 1.6.4. I also tried to install optfine and it gave me the same error. I deleted the whole .minecraft folder and downloaded minecraft from minecraft.net. When I open it, the launcher still doesn't play minecraft. I did the same thing over and over again for like more than 10 times and nothing seems to be fixed.

Other things I did that day:

• Reinstall java
• Removed .minecraft from the %appdata%
• Tried different versions of minecraft

I also tried downloading a launcher created by teamextreme and I was surprised that it worked! After that, I quickly installed optifine and the problem is back.

Well, first, optifine is for 1.7.2, not 1.7.4, and it will only work for that version. However, You can play a 1.7.4 server with a 1.7.2 client. (recent blurring of the versions led to all 1.7.x versions being compatible with each-other.)

Secondly, we need what it says in the vanilla launcher development console tab after the crash.

Sadly, I can't put everything in the development console. It says it's too long. I just put the last lines of what it says.

Well, not entirely helpful, but what i can get is that it's a downloading problem. Try disabling your firewall and antivirus and trying again.

Oops, I mean I installed optfine 1.7.2 to my 1.7.2 profile. Not 1.7.4.

I just posted the development launcher response. I had to put the last lines only cause it's too long (this is what the website is saying)

So after I disabled my firewall, it stills give the same error. I think the servers aren't responding which avoids me to download some files needed in the .minecraft folder.

So I asked my friend to delete the .minecraft folder too and I told him to download mc again. He did the same thing I did and he ended up with the same error as mine. I think there's a problem downloading some files of the .minecraft folder. I don't know what's avoiding it to but now I know how this whole thing happened. You guys try it, but make a back-up for the .minecraft folder so if you mess up, you could still recover the file.
