Hello, I'm having trouble loading a particular single player save file. It was working fine earlier today, but for some reason it eventually decided to lag tremendously, refuse to allow me to place any blocks successfully, and eventually I would exit the world. It's come to the point where I cannot load the world anymore; it's stuck at the "downloading terrain" screen. This does not occur in any of my other worlds, so I've isolated the problem at this save file.
I do have a few older backups, but first I'd like to attempt to recover this. I can open it fine in MCEdit, like everything is how it's supposed to be. Is there a way to use this program to recover it somehow?
I'll list as many specs as I can.
Macbook Pro Mid-2012 Software OS X 10.9.1 (13B42) Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Java version: 1.6.0_65
Quick update: I was able to find a peculiar update when copying the world to my multiplayer server.
If your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit. Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
You may need to remove entities from the map as well, follow these steps. Warning: This will delete any and all entities in the selected region, including tamed animals!
Open the map in MCEdit, select the affected region or use CTRL-A to select the whole world, then click on 'Delete Entities' in the menu on the left hand side.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.
Anyway, I tried the "repair regions" option, to no avail.
I'll try deleting entities, that might be what's causing the squid error. Could it be possible that I have too many entities loaded? I have a nearby Iron Golem farm, but it's automatic so no golems are constantly loaded. Worst case scenario, I can delete entities and then use spawn eggs to replace all my important ones. Not a huge deal.
My world has been repaired! I found a nice workaround after some searching.
First, I backed up my corrupted world. Then I took a random healthy save file that I had, and copied the following files to my corrupted one:
level.dat
level.dat_old
session.lock
I booted up the corrupted world again, and after copying those files it worked perfectly. However, I spawned at a random point, my inventory/armor was changed to whatever I had in the other world, and my nether chest was accordingly changed. All of these things were easily repaired with simple /give commands, as well as /setspawn.
Just wanted to share my findings to the community. I'll be sure to back up my world a bit more often this time.
