Hi everyone. If anyone could help me, please take a few minutes to read what I've to say. If anyone could help me with this FPS issue, I'll be eternally grateful.
The laptop I'm currently using (and will be for a few more months) is a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, with Java version 1.6.0_31. When I am using version 1.7.4 of vanilla Minecraft, I get a rather low FPS. To start off, here are my system specifications:

And here are two images of my game, and what video settings I use in-game:
Here's the same image, but with the render distance lowered to 2 chunks:
These FPS's are just when I'm standing still. When I look around or anything similar, the FPS drops considerably. I've searched around the web and have found numerous threads and whatnot detailing how to improve FPS, but they aren't too helpful. I can get a (relatively) better FPS of 15-22 if I lower chunk rendering to 2, but that's not how anyone should play Minecraft, right? I could use Optifine (when it's updated), but this laptop shouldn't be relying on a mod to make this game playable.
I looked on the Minecraft Wiki and it says that the average FPS for a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit should be 20+ at the least, so I'm pretty confused (and irritated) at this sluggish FPS, which is preventing me from having a fun Minecraft experience.
Could anyone help me with this issue? If I missed anything, please point it out. I'm rather stumped...
Is FPS any different when running 1.7.2? Certain features in 1.7.4 may have deteriorated performance. You also have an integrated graphics card, which Minecraft relies heavily upon for performance, it isn't the best so to speak.
Are you also running 64-bit Java, to confirm? It may also improve performance if you could grab the latest Java update for 64-bit available here. Please make sure to remove all prior versions before doing so. http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Anyways, I'll try to get the driver update and double-check my Java. After that I'll run the game in 1.7.2 & 1.7.4, and I'll give you an update soon after. Thanks again!

You can attempt to install the driver update available here. Though you may be stopped with an error saying that you need to grab the update from SONY instead, if SONY offers any. (highly unlikely). https://downloadcent... Drivers

Now I've the latest driver update (version 15.28.20.64.3347) along with the newest version of Java (64-bit 1.7.0_45). I also removed all older versions of Java.
In 1.7.2, with the same video settings (7 chunk rendering) in Minecraft I'm getting an average of 9-13 FPS, compared to the previous 3-6 FPS. With 2 chunk rendering, I'm getting an average of 27-32 FPS, compared to the previous 15-22 FPS.
In 1.7.4, with the same video settings (7 chunk rendering) I'm getting an average of 7-12 FPS. With 2 chunk rendering I'm getting 23-29 FPS which is better than before. I've noticed the lower FPS in 1.7.4...hmm..
In general, with 2 chunk rendering there's a good increase of FPS (it's smooth for me actually). With 7 chunk rendering there's a slight increase. Is there anything else besides render distance I can change in my video settings to improve FPS? What should I change my chunk render distance to? Any recommendations as to how much RAM I should allocate? I'm not sure how much I have allocated right now.

You should set your render distance to a value that you're comfortable with, though 5-6 sounds like a good range. RAM allocation does not improve performance with your setup, contrary to popular belief. Make sure your laptop is set to high performance in the power options, and see if Intel's graphics settings are set to performance as well in its graphics control panel(right click on desktop to access).
Other than that there's not much you can do. You've pushed your laptop's capabilities to its limits.

I think that 5 chunk distance will do the trick, it runs good enough for me at that setting. And thanks for clarifying, I wasn't sure if more RAM allocation = more FPS was true. Well, I'll look back on these tips when needed.
But anyways, this has significantly helped my game, so thanks again!

Retired StaffYou can attempt to install the driver update available here. Though you may be stopped with an error saying that you need to grab the update from SONY instead, if SONY offers any. (highly unlikely).
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23377&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Drivers%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09
Are you also running 64-bit Java, to confirm? It may also improve performance if you could grab the latest Java update for 64-bit available here. Please make sure to remove all prior versions before doing so.
http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
are you serious
Anyways, I'll try to get the driver update and double-check my Java. After that I'll run the game in 1.7.2 & 1.7.4, and I'll give you an update soon after. Thanks again!

Retired StaffYou should set your render distance to a value that you're comfortable with, though 5-6 sounds like a good range.
