I have had this computer for a month now. It is an Asus ROG G73SW, with the specs listed below
Intel Core i7 2.0ghz turbo to 2.6ghz
16gb ram
NVIDIA GTX 460m 1.5gb
2x 750GB hdd
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
Minecraft used to run fine, with fps ranging from 150-250 on max settings. Today I logged on only to find that I was getting 3-30 fps. I do not recall installing anything prior to it lagging.
Minecraft is the only thing that is lagging. Sometimes the fps will be bearable, although there are huge lag spikes as shown in the first link below.
I have tried doing a system restore to the day before it started lagging, updating all drivers, configuring the nvidia control panel, and dedicating ram to java and mc.
It would be greatly appreciated if someone helped me with this issue

the lag could be because of multiple reasons including... there is a big process running on your laptop, the texture/resource pack could be causing loads of lag, you could be loading new/unloaded chunks in your Minercraft world. I would also look in to all of your Optifine settings like the quality settings and the performance settings, etc.

I have looked in the task manager before. It says that the cpu usage is 100% for the first few seconds, then it drops down to about 1-10%. I use a wide variety of texture packs, I even make some (visit my channel :P) I have tested this issue on different worlds, it also lags in multiplayer. I am now playing 1.7, so there is no optifine.
so did you figure your problem out then? if not, then its lagging because of the wide variety of texture/resource packs you use. Expect even more lag if you use a really high definition pack that your computer can't handle.

Ok. I will try clearing out my resource pack folder. I usually use a 64x64 texture pack.
